Fines for supermarkets that treat farmers badly a step closer say Farron & Cable

Measures to grant the Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) powers to fine UK supermarkets have been laid in Parliament, Liberal Democrat Business Secretary Vince Cable has announced. This news has been welcomed by South Lakes MP and chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Hill Farming, Tim Farron, as a 'great win for farmers and suppliers'.

Farron welcomes growth funding for Cumbrian projects

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that the government has agreed to a fresh £20 million package of improvements in infrastructure throughout Cumbria. Tim has been in discussion with the government about the package and has pointed to further funding for Phase 2 of Connecting Cumbria which will provide additional broadband coverage to thousands more homes.

MP welcomes more apprenticeship funding

At today's meeting in Kendal, Lib Dem councillors voted for funding to be allocated to help young people into work. £20,000 will support more apprenticeships and a further £10,000 will fund a new pilot project to provide traineeships or work experience for disadvantaged young people. South Lakes MP Tim Farron has praised Cumbria County Council's Local Committee for South Lakeland for securing more funding for apprenticeships.
