Farron 'confident' that a buyer can be found for Westmorland shopping centre

Creating a thriving high street in Kendal and other towns in South Lakeland is a key Council Plan priority for SLDC.

A buyer is being sought for the Westmorland Shopping Centre in Kendal after its owner fell into administration. Tim Farron has offered to help in any way he can and has stressed that the shopping centre and it's outlets remain open while the joint administrators seek a purchaser.

Ethel Austin Properties (Kendal) failed on 25 March 2015 with BDO business restructuring partners Sarah Rayment and Kerry Bailey appointed joint administrators.

The company owns and operates the shopping centre, which houses more than 30 retailers as well as Kendal's indoor market.

The company employs two shopping centre managers who have both been retained.

Tim said: "It is vital to say that the centre, indoor market and all the outlets remain open - they are not affected by this announcement. The centre managers have been retained and I am incredibly confident that a buyer can be found for the centre which is at the heart of Kendal's high street.

"I am keen to work with the administrators and the staff to ensure its success in the future."
