Spillage "must never happen again" - Farron

Local MP Tim Farron today renewed calls for answers, following confusion over a major oil spillage from a generator at Coniston Water. There is a debate over when the oil spill occurred, due to conflicting stories over who reported the spillage first. An eyewitness reported the spill to the Environment Agency on January 17th, and the EA started clean-up the following day. However, United Utilities claimed it reported the situation as soon as it occurred. In addition, it took eight days to tell the public about the spillage.

Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron has declared his support for the UK Human Trafficking Centre's Blue Blindfold campaign, which is aiming to raise awareness of the signs of human trafficking. The campaign was launched in parliament yesterday, and prompted Mr Farron to table parliamentary questions to the Home Secretary regarding awareness at borders of human trafficking.

Fairtrade fortnight praised in parliament

Cumbria's own 'Fairtrade Fortnight', which is due to run from the 25th of February to the 9th of March this year has been praised by Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron, who has tabled a Commons Motion welcoming the project. Mr Farron, who is the Countryside spokesman for the Liberal Democrats has been campaigning for the Fairtrade brand, which has ensured a better deal for thousands of third world farmers, to be extended to British farmers as well.

Post office campaign - Bring your letters to Tim Farron this Saturday!

Local MP Tim Farron is urging local residents to make a final push in the campaign to save our post offices, by delivering supportive letters for their post office to him this Saturday, and also by signing the petition. Tim will have a stall at the 'birdcage' in Kendal town centre where he hopes to recruit many more local residents to his campaign to keep open the 42 post offices in his constituency that are at risk of closure.

MP sleeps rough to highlight housing need

Local MP Tim Farron spent the night sleeping rough last Saturday for the Manna House charity which provides those in need of housing with educational and social support, as well as assisting them with finding a place to live. Mr Farron joined representatives from the charity including some who in the past had been rough sleepers for real, at Kendal Castle which overlooks the town.
