"One year on and still no Grayrigg enquiry" - Farron

As the first anniversary of the tragedy approaches, local MP Tim Farron has repeated his call for a public inquiry into the cause of the train derailment at Grayrigg in February last year. Mr Farron has met with Transport Ministers in the past to urge them to carry out an inquiry, and has also written to the Prime Minister on the issue.

An interim report into the causes of the crash released last year concluded that the cause was similar to that of the Potters Bar crash.

Tim Farron said:

"The similarities between the Grayrigg crash and the Potters Bar tragedy are clear. There are thousands of rail points across the country and it is essential that rail travelers can have complete confidence in all of them at all times.

"The two incidents demonstrate the need for a full public inquiry so that passenger safety can be ensured."
