MP steps up campaign to stop cuts to North West rail services

Local MP Tim Farron has demanded a meeting with Secretary of State for Transport, Douglas Alexander, as he steps up his campaign against cuts to rail services in the North West. As part of the negotiations for the new Cross Country franchise, the Department for Transport is proposing terminating all services from the North West to the South West and South coast at Birmingham and reducing the number of services from the Windermere and Furness branch lines to Manchester Airport.

Farron backs call for complete broadband coverage

Local MP, Tim Farron met with Richard Walters and Derek Hewitt from Commendium to discuss 'Project Access' today. The project will hopefully see communities all over Cumbria being able to access reliable broadband internet technology. Tim was particularly concerned about those parts of his constituency that at present are unable to access broadband, like Old Hutton, Cowgill and the Duddon Valley.

Local MP Tim Farron visited the Baycall centre at Westmorland General Hospital last night to meet with the doctors, nurses and call handlers who assist the people of the Morecambe Bay area outside of normal working hours.

MP joins Alzheimer's Memory Walk

Local MP Tim Farron joined around 60 people last Sunday taking part in a two mile walk along the promenade in Grange-over-Sands to raise money and awareness for the Alzheimer's Society.

'Peace at last' for Windermere estate

Local MP Tim Farron and Windermere's Liberal Democrat councillors have welcomed the news that Network Rail is to remove the six whistle boards on the railway line into Windermere station. At the moment, trains have to sound their horns six times within a short period of time as they pass pedestrian crossings near the station. Network Rail announced back in July that they would look at removing some of the whistle boards, but said then that three would have to stay - a decision which has been overturned today.

Local MP Tim Farron is once again hitting the road in a camper van for his annual village tour. Tim will be visiting 48 different communities over a fortnight beginning on Monday 14 August.
