'ACUTE SERVICE REVIEW SHOULD GO BACK TO DRAWING BOARD' - FARRON

Local MP Tim Farron has called for the Acute Service Review to be taken back to the drawing board, after a week of high drama in local health services. Officials from the Primary Care Trust have today demanded that ward 11 at the Westmorland General Hospital is re-opened after the Hospital Trust unilaterally decided to start implementing the outcome of the recent Acute Services Review without reaching agreement with the PCT and Ambulance Trust.

Lib Dem MPs lobby Ministers on farm prices

Local MP Tim Farron has joined with a group of fellow Liberal Democrat MPs to lobby the Secretary of State for DEFRA Hillary Benn on the cripplingly low prices offered to farmers by supermarkets following the outbreak of foot and mouth. Mr Farron, who last week called on the Prime Minister to force supermarkets to 'play fair', joined with six other MPs, including the Lib Dem spokesman on the Environment Chris Huhne to persuade supermarket bosses to heed the call.

Farron presses Primary Care Trust on specialist nurses

Local MP Tim Farron will attend a meeting with Primary Care Trust representatives about providing a specialist service for sufferers of Lymphoedema, a disease which affects thousands of people. At present there is a barely adequate service in South Cumbria for cancer sufferers who have the condition, and no NHS service at all for people with the condition who do not have cancer (who make up roughly three-quarters of sufferers).

MP Thanks Prince of Wales, asks Government to Follow Suit

Tim Farron MP, chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Hill Farming, has thanked the Prince of Wales for his generosity in setting up a £600,000 hardship fund to help those families worst hit by the crisis in British farming caused by the outbreak of Foot and Mouth and Bluetongue diseases.
