Time to set aside set-aside, says Farron

Tim Farron MP has called on the EU to abolish set-aside immediately following the recent poor weather and floods across the UK and northern Europe. Mr Farron has submitted a Parliamentary Early Day Motion calling for its abolition and hopes to win support from MPs from all parties.

MP speaks out against train fare rises

Local MP Tim Farron has today voiced his concern at the planned train fare rises which will affect many rail passengers in South Lakeland. The Government announced yesterday that the cross country franchise has been awarded to Arriva Trains who have said they are planning to raise unregulated fares, which account for 60% of total fare revenue, by 3.4% above inflation each year. This would mean that rail fares will increase by 30% above inflation by the end of the eight-year franchise.

Triathlon cheque boosts New Holehird campaign

Local MP Tim Farron visited the New Holehird home for the disabled to attend a social event and present them with a cheque for £345 towards the campaign to save the home. Tim raised the money through his triathlon in which he ran, sailed and cycled from the most northerly point of his constituency to Humphrey Head the most southerly point.

Farron challenges Prime Minister to postpone post office closures

Local MP Tim Farron has today issued a challenge to the new Prime Minister Gordon Brown to consider postponing the planned closure of thousands of local post offices until the Sustainable Communities Bill has come into effect. Mr Farron has been a leading campaigner for the Sustainable Communities Bill which would give local people the power to decide on the future of their local services.
