Farron presses Sport England for Berners pool support

Local MP, Tim Farron has today written to the Chief Executive of Sport England, Jennie Price asking for help in reopening the Berners swimming pool in Grange-over-Sands. The pool, which opened in 2007 as a community trust was forced to close last year because of financial problems. Mr Farron asked Sport England if they would meet with him to discuss ways in which the pool could be reopened.

Farron presses Brown to reverse post offices decision

Local MP, Tim Farron has today written to the man expected by most to be Britain's next Prime Minister, Gordon Brown urging him to reconsider the government's position on proposed post office closures. This comes ahead of an announcement from the Department for Trade and Industry expected this Thursday on the post offices consultation.

"Blair's rural legacy is a disaster" - Farron

Local MP, Tim Farron, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Hill Farming has criticised Labour Prime Minister Tony Blair for his poor record on rural affairs ahead of the expected announcement tomorrow of a date on which he will resign. The fiasco at the Rural Payments Agency, post office closures in rural areas and a lack of NHS dentistry are just a few areas, among many others in which Tony Blair has failed rural communities.

Farron gets Ministerial confirmation on extra hospital cash

and challenges trusts to use it wisely Local MP, Tim Farron has received confirmation from the Minister for Health Services Rosie Winterton that the University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay Trust begun the financial year debt free, after the £6,357,000 fine for being in deficit was wiped out. However, the Minister has yet to confirm whether the Cumbria Primary Care Trust will be in a similar situation as well. Mr Farron is now pursuing the Minister to give details of the additional funds available to the Primary Care Trust.

MP on the spot at Walk Cumbria events

Tim Farron, MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale, will be in the hot seat at two events organised as part of the Walk Cumbria Mission; on Friday night Tim will be facing an audience of young people who have been invited to 'grill' him on issues of Christianity and politics a Question Time session with the Bishops of Penrith and Carlisle this Saturday.
