D-Day approaches for Post Offices campaign

Local MP Tim Farron is preparing for the final week of the first stage of the campaign against the Government's plans to close thousands of rural post offices up and down the country, preparing petitions to be presented on the floor of the House of Commons next Monday evening.

Farron consults local Head teachers over School Leaving Age Bill

Last Friday, local MP Tim Farron held an education forum with head or deputy head teachers from high schools and primary schools in Westmorland and Lonsdale. There was a wide-ranging discussion, discussing amongst other things the Local Education Authority, SAT tests and broadband infrastructure. In addition, members of the Forum discussed the School leaving Age Bill, in particular the likelihood of there being no additional funding provided for schools even though there is a good chance that the bill would lead to a higher number of people 'staying on' at sixth form.

Local Liberal Democrats win membership award at conference

Local MP Tim Farron collected an award on behalf of the Westmorland and Lonsdale Liberal Democrat party on Saturday at the annual Liberal Democrats spring party conference in Liverpool, acknowledging the impressive increase in membership numbers over the past 12 months. The award is handed out each year to the local party who has had the largest increase in the number of members signing up.

Farron lists Budget demands for South Lakeland

Local MP, Tim Farron has issued three demands to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alistair Darling, who delivers his first Budget today. Mr Darling took over last summer when Gordon Brown moved into 10 Downing Street, and has presided over a series of calamities, including losing millions of peoples' personal data on CDs sent in the post.

"Don't close heart unit by default!" - Farron

Local MP Tim Farron has today issued a call to health bosses not to let the heart unit at Westmorland General Hospital close after meeting with top executives in the region on Monday. Mr Farron met with the Chief Executives of the Hospital Trust, the Primary Care Trust, North West Strategic Health Authority and North West Ambulance Service.
