Local Liberal Democrats win membership award at conference

Local MP Tim Farron collected an award on behalf of the Westmorland and Lonsdale Liberal Democrat party on Saturday at the annual Liberal Democrats spring party conference in Liverpool, acknowledging the impressive increase in membership numbers over the past 12 months. The award is handed out each year to the local party who has had the largest increase in the number of members signing up.

Farron lists Budget demands for South Lakeland

Local MP, Tim Farron has issued three demands to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Alistair Darling, who delivers his first Budget today. Mr Darling took over last summer when Gordon Brown moved into 10 Downing Street, and has presided over a series of calamities, including losing millions of peoples' personal data on CDs sent in the post.

"Don't close heart unit by default!" - Farron

Local MP Tim Farron has today issued a call to health bosses not to let the heart unit at Westmorland General Hospital close after meeting with top executives in the region on Monday. Mr Farron met with the Chief Executives of the Hospital Trust, the Primary Care Trust, North West Strategic Health Authority and North West Ambulance Service.

Farron slams Government on Pirbright report

Tim Farron, Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Hill Farming and Liberal Democrat MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale has criticised the Government after a report issued today called the animal health facility at Pirbright "shabby and dilapidated". DEFRA, who were responsible for the facility, were heavily criticised by the report, along with several other organisations.

Farron warns Government about blue tongue vaccine shortage

Local MP Tim Farron has today warned the Government that they may have seriously under estimated the amount of blue tongue vaccine. Mr Farron has obtained information through a parliamentary question to the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs that an order has been placed for 22 million doses of the BTV8 vaccine which must be administered twice to cattle in order to be effective. This is unlikely to be sufficient to vaccinate the vast number of farm animals in Britain against the disease, which is likely to become more prevalent as summer approaches.

Liberal Democrats fight for Vioxx victims

This week a group of Liberal Democrat MPs, including Health Spokesman Norman Lamb, Tim Farron and Jenny Willott, met with lawyers for victims of Vioxx to discuss the situation of British sufferers of Vioxx, who have been denied access to justice by the US courts. Both Tim and Jenny have constituents who have suffered heart attacks and are trying to take legal action.
