MP to present petition to House of Commons to call for retention of Kendal Tax Office

1 Jul 2008

Local MP Tim Farron will tonight present a petition on the floor of the House of Commons protesting against the closure of the HM Revenue and Customs office in Kendal. Under a Government consultation the office, along with many others up and down the country has been earmarked for closure, which will lead to significant job losses.

Mr Farron will present the petition after the close of business in the Commons today at around 10pm.

Tim Farron said:

"The job losses that the closure would cause are obviously a great concern, but alongside this there is the impact that the loss of the HMRC office's expertise will have on small businesses in South Cumbria. Many small business owners get fantastic advice from the excellent staff at the HMRC but they will surely be less likely to seek advice if they have to travel many miles to get it."
