Farron re-elected as Vice-Chair of Parliamentary dementia awareness group

2 Jul 2008

Local MP Tim Farron was today re-elected as the Vice Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Dementia at their annual general meeting in the House of Commons. The group has recently conducted an inquiry into the use of anti-psychotic drugs on elderly people in care homes.

Mr Farron has been campaigning recently for a fairer deal for charging for dementia care and has previously tabled parliamentary motions in the Commons regarding care homes.

Tim Farron said:

"The Dementia APPG has done some excellent work, particularly with the inquiry into anti-psychotic drugs which has done much to raise the profile of the issues.

"I am delighted to have been nominated as Vice-Chair of this important group and I hope to be able to contribute over the next year. I am also really grateful to South Lakeland Alzheimers Society and South Lakelend Age Concern who have been extremely helpful in keeping me properly informed on dementia-related issues."
