Farron quizzes Secretary of State on Hill Farm top up

Tim Farron, Lib Dem MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Hill Farming questioned the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Hilary Benn on the adequacy of the Hill Farm Allowance top up. Mr Farron, who yesterday called on Mr Benn to ensure that the HFA top up was delivered on time, asked if he thought the amount pledged was sufficient given many farmers' circumstances.

MP secures promise from Minister on mental health ward

Local MP, Tim Farron has received assurances from the Health Minister Ivan Lewis that the mental health ward at Westmorland General Hospital, Ward 4, could not be permanently closed or downgraded without full public consultation. In response to a parliamentary question tabled by Mr Farron, the Minister said that the Trust had a 'responsibility' to consult fully.

Local MP presses County Council on Crooklands Bridge

Tim Farron has written to Cumbria County Council in an effort to force them to press forward with measures that will prevent the Crooklands Bridge from being damaged in the future. The bridge, which has been seriously damaged three times in recent months, is part of a well-used route between A65 and the Kent Estuary is crucial to the local area.

Farron calls on Health Minister to send Review back to drawing board

Local MP Tim Farron has today issued the Department of Health Minister Anne Keen with a request to send Westmorland General Hospital's Acute Services Review back to the drawing board. Speaking in a Westminster Hall debate, Mr Farron stated that the Review had been plagued by a "catalogue of maladministration, procedural flaws, management failures and broken promises".
