Farron welcomes Parliamentary inquiry into pubco power

Liberal Democrat MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that a Parliamentary Committee will take a second look at the power of the pubcos. The news comes on the back of months of campaigning by Mr Farron, who tabled a strongly supported parliamentary motion calling for the inquiry. Specifically, the Business and Enterprise Committee will be looking into whether the recommendations of the 2004 Trade and Industry Committee report on pubcos have been followed.

Local MP to present North West Multi Faith Tourism Association Marque to Coniston Parish Church

This Friday at 13.00 local MP Tim Farron will be presenting Coniston Parish Church with the NW Multi Faith Tourism Association Marque. The North West Multi Faith Tourism Marque is an award presented to places of worship such as Mosques, Synagogues, Churches and others, in acknowledgement of a high standard of support for visitors, in addition to showcasing their cultural heritage and place in the community.

Farron calls for Government to oppose Electronic sheep tagging

Liberal Democrat MP and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Hill Farming Tim Farron has today launched a bid to persuade the British Government to oppose the introduction of EU rules that will force farmers to electronically tag their sheep. The Government claims that this will aid disease control and make it easier to track animal movement. Mr Farron, however, believes this measure to be completely unnecessary, and will force farmers to reconsider whether they remain in the industry by knocking around 40% off their incomes overnight.

Farron asks local businesses to help save HMRC office

Local MP Tim Farron has written to local businesses in a bid to aid the fight to save the Kendal offices of HM Revenue and Customs which has been earmarked for closure under a Government consultation. Mr Farron hopes that the bodies like the Chamber of Commerce will urge their members to contribute to the consultation stressing how important it is to have a local tax office.

Farron backs plans to scrap mandatory school testing

Local MP Tim Farron has today backed Liberal Democrat plans to scrap mandatory testing for school children. Mr Farron, who regularly holds youth forums, often hears from both young people and educators that the mandatory national tests for seven and fourteen year olds do more harm than good. The abolition of mandatory tests would save the Government millions of pounds, which Mr Farron believes could be of great benefit to his constituents.

Farron welcomes Witherslack Community Shop progress

Local MP Tim Farron has welcomed the progress made towards establishing a Witherslack Community Shop. Witherslack has been without a local shop since the closure of their Post Office two years ago, and have now been offered a temporary site adjacent to the local pub, the Derby Arms, until a permanent location can be agreed with the Witherslack Community Land Trust, which owns the site.
