"Time to scrap Regional Spatial Strategy and let communities decide"- Farron

South Lakeland's attempts to create more affordable homes for local people are being hampered by central government, according to local MP Tim Farron. The current Local Development Framework process in South Lakeland has been prompted by the Government's Regional Spatial Strategy which forces Councils to identify ridiculously large amounts of green land for development.

MP calls on PCT to back Homestart

MP Tim Farron has called upon Cumbria's NHS Primary care trust to help fund a local charity that supports young families who are under pressure. Home-Start is a local charity that helps dozens of families in South Cumbria every year, it has 40 volunteers and 2 paid staff. Local volunteers offer support and friendship to new parents through home visiting, via groups and through social events.

MP asks PCT Chief to investigate concerns over Langdale Unit

Local MP Tim Farron has today called on the Chief Executive of the NHS Primary Care Trust to formally investigate serious concerns that the Langdale Unit at Westmorland General Hospital is congested, with many patients on the ward having dementia and who therefore need specialist care. Tim Farron was one of the MPs leading a recent national parliamentary inquiry into the care of people with dementia.

Farron urges Chancellor to create new Hill Farm apprenticeship scheme in the Budget

Shadow Secretary of State for DEFRA Tim Farron MP has this morning called on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to put into the budget a hill farm apprenticeship scheme. The Hill Farm apprenticeship scheme will potentially build upon the skills and experience of farmers in our communities. Furthermore, it will allow young farmers to gain valuable business skills and learn from high quality local educators from the vocational and further education sector.
