Young people have their say in MP's Youth Forum

24 Jan 2007

Local MP, Tim Farron held his first Youth Forum last Friday which gives young people in the area the chance to air their concerns and talk to Tim. The event was well attended by pupils from schools across the constituency, and many important issues were discussed in considerable detail.

Issues such as climate change, affordable housing for young people, as well of course, as the issue of votes for 16 year-olds were debated.

After the meeting, Tim Farron said:

"Ninety per cent of letters that I receive are from people older than I am, but it is of the utmost importance that that I get a perspective from the younger generation as well.

"The state of British politics at the moment could turn some young people off, but I have a responsibility to ensure that this does not happen.

"From experience, I know that young people are still very interested in many issues which directly affect them, so it is important that they are engaged as much as possible."

Tim will be emailing the attendees in the coming weeks in advance of the next meeting of the forum in the next couple of months.
