15 Mar 2017

Figures released today show that unemployment in Westmorland and Lonsdale remains amongst the lowest in the country. The constituency's claimant rate is the 11th lowest of all 650 UK constituencies.

The figures, released today by the House of Commons, show that in February there were 265 claimants in Westmorland and Lonsdale. This was a slight increase on the previous month, when there were 250, but still leaves the constituency with a claimant rate of just 0.7%. This was less than a third of the national rate of 2.5%. Compared to the same month the year before, the number of unemployed claimants aged 18-24 has fallen by 10%.

Tim said: "I'd like to thank the hard work and entrepreneurial spirit of South Lakes residents. It is thanks to their efforts that our area has such impressive jobs figures, meaning more jobs and opportunities for local people. The District Council also deserves praise for their continued efforts to support the small businesses and entrepreneurs that are driving our local economy forward."
