Unbuilt homes could help solve housing shortage - Farron
South Lakes MP Tim Farron is calling on the government to work with him to help local developers build homes which have already got planning permission in an attempt to ease the housing shortage in the area.
Tim has uncovered data which shows there are around 1,000 unbuilt homes in South Lakeland which have already secured planning permission from the district council or national park authorities, but which have not yet been built - a large portion of these houses have 'affordable home' conditions on them. Many developers have been hit by the current economic situation, but the MP believes these unbuilt homes would go some way to helping the 5,000 local families who are looking for a suitable home in the area.
Tim said: "These developments have already received planning permission so they are the ones that are most straightforward to build quickly. I now want to work with the council and the housing minister to ensure that we get these homes built, providing much needed affordable homes for local people."
