Ulverston Post Office set for closure

10 Jan 2017

Plans to close Ulverston post office are "misguided" and threaten the community's access to services, according to South Lakes MP Tim Farron.

The move was announced today as part of a plan to close and franchise 37 Crown Post Offices across the UK. Unions say this is likely to lead to the loss of 300 jobs and 127 specialist roles nationally.

Tim said: "The planned closure of the Post Office in Ulverston is a misguided decision which will threaten the community's access to vital services. A Post Office is so much more than just somewhere to send letters - it is a real hub which provides a range of services to local people. Residents from across the south of the county use this Post Office, and its closure would have negative impact on all of them.

"The Conservative government's failure to secure the future of these Post Offices and the services they provide shows they are not serious about protecting key services."
