Tour of Britain will put Cumbria in shop window of the World says MP

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has said that the tour of Britain will put Cumbria in the 'shop window of the world' as the route comes direct through South Lakeland.

The Cumbrian leg of the Tour of Britain will be the most challenging and spectacular in the history of the event - and could feature legends Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish.

The final details of the Lake District stage were announced at the official launch at Honister Slate Mine yesterday. The gruelling 115 route will start in Carlisle at 11am on September 16 and take in Wigton, Aspatria, Cockermouth, Dearham, Maryport, Workington, Whitehaven, Mockerin, Honister, Keswick, Grasmere, Ambleside before finishing in Kendal.

Tim said: "This is fantastic news. The Tour of Britain will bring some of the world's best cyclists through our area. Kendal and South Lakeland will be firmly in the spotlight as they play host to this extremely prestigious event. Being able to bring another event to South Cumbria shows yet again that we are the rural cultural hub of the UK. With events like these we are really punching above our weight."
