South Lakes MP Tim Farron has praised the team behind Kendal's Torchlight Carnival for saving the event and putting on a great show on Friday night.

The event, which was bigger than 2013, was the second since the event had to be cancelled in 2012 due to lack of volunteers and funding. Tim, who this year helped fundraise for Kendal's Mountain Rescue Team with his daughter Gracie, said the event put 'the best of Kendal on show'.

Tim also pointed out how the event gives businesses a real boost. He also thanked South Lakeland District Council and Kendal Town Council for their help and financial support for the carnival.

Tim said: "I remember a couple of years ago when I sat in a meeting talking about how we could save the Torchlight Carnival. To go from that meeting, where the future looked bleak, to Friday's amazing event is fantastic. I want to thank every single person who helped, attended or volunteered to make the event a massive success.

"Torchlight is the best of Kendal on show and long may that continue!"
