“Today’s budget ‘massive insult’ to headteachers” – South Lakes MP responds to budget

31 Oct 2018

Responding to this afternoon's budget, South Lakes MP Tim Farron said:

"The Chancellor says that austerity is over, but he is out of touch if he thinks his announcements are anything other than a drop in the ocean.

"His pledge for money 'for the little extras' is a massive insult to local headteachers when they are struggling to pay for teachers or essentials.

"The extra money for housing, when spread across England, would mean that few local families will benefit when there is a massive need for affordable housing.

"We're constantly being told that mental health should have parity with physical health - but for all this Government's announcements little has changed on the ground.

"And the extra money for adult social care won't even cover the cuts our council is being forced to make in next year's budgets - let alone improve services.

"Today's budget comes from a chancellor who has lost touch with reality outside the Westminster bubble."
