Local MP Tim Farron is joining Kevin Kendal on his five mile run from their auction room in Kendal with tins for the local foodbank. Kevin is handing over 3 stone in tins, which is also equivalent to the weight he lost this year.

The run with be a big loop of Kendal, culminating at Tim's office as it is one of four collection points within the town. The others are Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service Reception, The Westmorland Gazette Office and at South Lakes Foyer.

Kevin will set off at 2:30pm and run a 5 mile loop around Kendal. Tim will join them at 3:15pm at Burneside Road and they will all run to Tim's office in the centre of the town.

Tim said: "Being able to join Kevin on his run and hand over so much food just before Christmas is wonderful. It really is a fantastic achievement that he should be incredibly proud of. The people who support and run foodbanks really are unsung heroes and do amazing work to help the most vulnerable in our community. But as an MP my job is to try and make things better for local people. I am pressing the Government to build more social housing, I'm working to help constituents with their individual issues and I have set up a food bank collection point in my office in Kendal, working with local churches and Kings Food Bank.

"The scourge of poverty is something that no-one in our country should face, we have one of the biggest economies in the world - we must do more to help the most vulnerable and I will keep doing everything I can to fight for them."

Kevin Kendal added: "I was inspired to do this after reading an article about foodbanks on the running community website , fetcheveryone.com, of which I am a member. I am a keen runner and a challenge earlier this year saw me running 63.5 miles along the North Yorkshire coast. Training for this helped me lose around 3 stone in weight, which coincidentally is the approx weight of the food will be carrying

It is only right that those of us with plenty should give a little back to those who have little or nothing, and our staff and clients have donated tins, sugar, cereal and other non perishable foodstuffs at our recent auction of antiques and collectables. I am delighted that Tim is joining us and the run and helping to raise the profile of such a worthy cause, especially at this time of year , when we do all tend to indulge!"
