Local MP Tim Farron has raised more than £3,000 for Carer Support South Lakes by taking on the Great North Run in Newcastle last Sunday.

The organisation, which is based in Kendal, provide support to 1,350 unpaid carers in South Lakeland, ranging from carers aged as young as five to carers in their nineties.

There are 12,000 unpaid carers across Cumbria, many giving up their income, education, employment prospects or pension rights to care for a loved one, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Tim completed the half marathon in a time of two hours and five minutes – a personal best.

Tim said: “It was a very wet Great North Run but it was fantastic that we were all cheered on by a wonderfully warm Tyneside crowd.

“I’m massively grateful to everyone who sponsored me – your donation will go a long way in supporting unpaid carers in our community.”
