Tim Farron secures meeting with Energy Minister to discuss insulating homes in rural Cumbria

This afternoon in Parliament, Westmorland and Lonsdale MP Tim Farron asked Government ministers to meet with the local organisation Cumbria Action for Sustainability to discuss improving home insulation in rural areas.
It comes as new research shows that Eden in Cumbria has the least energy-efficient housing in England. 4,319 (17%) of the 24,361 homes here are classed as either an F or G on the rating scale.
Speaking during Energy Security and Net Zero Questions in Parliament, Tim said: “Will the Minister agree to meet the wonderful Cumbria Action for Sustainability and me to address some of the imperfections in the Government home insulation programme?
“It does not properly support older rural-community properties that are single-skinned, not so easy to insulate, and therefore not so easy to keep heated cheaply.”
In response, the Minister for Energy Consumers, Miatta Fahnbulleh said: “I am happy to meet the honourable gentleman. We know that we have a job to do to ensure that all insulation is up to standard and that we have the right measures for every type of household. I am keen to engage with him and members across the House.”
