On the floor of the House of Commons last night, local MP Tim Farron presented a petition urging Post Office Ltd to scrap their controversial plans to close Kendal Post Office.

In November last year, Post Office Ltd announced that 115 directly operated post offices were at risk of closure.

More than 2,800 people signed Tim’s petition calling for the future of Kendal’s town centre post office to be protected.

Speaking in Parliament, Tim said: “I rise to present a petition on behalf of 2,830 of my constituents in Kendal and the surrounding communities in favour of retaining and keeping alive the Kendal Crown post office on Stricklandgate in our town.

“In 2019, we successfully ran a campaign to save the Kendal Crown post office and, as a community, we are determined to do so again. The Crown post office serves our community wonderfully with fantastic staff, but more than that, it provides the home for the Royal Mail sorting office, and the postal workers there also do a wonderful job.

“To lose the Crown post office building could mean that we also lose the Royal Mail sorting office, and we are determined to stop that.”
