On Wednesday, 9th March 2011, Tim Farron attended a reception in Parliament marking World Kidney Day where he met with David Ambler and Kevin O'Hara from the Lancashire and South Cumbria Kidney Patient's Association.

The event was organised by the Kidney Alliance and sponsored by the All Party Parliamentary Kidney Group. The theme of World Kidney Day this year is the link between kidney disease and cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the most common of the chronic non--infectious diseases that impact global mortality. About 30% of all deaths worldwide and 10% of all healthy lives lost to disease are accounted for by CVD alone.

Tim's participation underscores his ongoing involvement with issues of kidney health, having previously led a successful campaign for a renal unit within Westmorland General Hospital. The unit now boasts 18 beds in use by kidney patients, who previously had to travel all the way to Preston for care, representing a big win for Tim and local patients.

Commenting, Tim said: "Today was a fantastic opportunity to draw attention to a serious issue which affects numerous individuals, including many within Westmorland and Lonsdale. Together we can continue to push for excellent health care solutions and informed awareness regarding kidney health"
