Local MP Tim Farron recently joined parents and NHS staff at a special event to mark the return of birth services at Helme Chase Maternity Unit in Kendal.

Birth services had been suspended at Westmorland General Hospital since last May due to significant staffing issues.

In September, Tim presented a petition to Parliament, signed by more than 2,200 local residents calling for birth services to be reinstated.

Tim said: “Helme Chase is such a special place for so many of us who have had our children born there, so it's really pleasing to see it fully back open following a long running campaign.

“I want to say a massive thank you to all of the brilliant and dedicated staff at Helme Chase for everything they do.”
