Cumbrian MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that plans to upgrade the A66 route between Penrith and Scotch Corner have been given the go-ahead by the Government.

A decision on the project was due back in November but was delayed by four months by the Department for Transport.

It is hoped the upgrades will help improve safety for those using the road and speed up journey times.

Commenting on the decision, Tim said: “I’m absolutely thrilled that the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine project has finally been given the green light.

“This project will be so important in boosting our economy, reducing congestion and, most importantly, saving lives.”
