St Cuthbert's pupils meet local MP
South Lakes MP Tim Farron met pupils from St Cuthbert's Catholic Primary School in Windermere on Friday, to find out more about the work they had been doing about the Holocaust.
In light of the legacy of Windermere in taking in the Windermere boys after WWII, the pupils have been studying the Holocaust, and the lessons that must be learnt from it. The pupils had an assembly on the topic of caring for neighbours and being respectful and tolerant of others, including those who are different. Tim was asked to speak to the students as part of the assembly, and drew on the story of the good Samaritan to talk about the importance of looking after our neighbours and showing compassion.
The pupils also showed Tim a quilt they had made incorporating different flags to celebrate the different nationalities and cultural backgrounds of the school's pupils.
Tim said: "I was very impressed with the pupils at St Cuthbert's, who had clearly not only studied but also thought deeply about the lessons that must be taken from the horrors of the Holocaust. The area's link with the Windermere Boys made this topic particularly poignant. I enjoyed talking to the pupils about their work, as well as taking part in the assembly about the importance of respect and tolerance, as well as care and compassion for others."
