South Lakes Lib Dems knock on 1000 doors in a week
South Lakeland Liberal Democrat members, councillors and campaigners will start a campaign of door step calling this week as part of a nationwide challenge set by Lib Dem Leader Nick Clegg MP to call on 1 million homes across Britain by June 2009.
Nick Clegg's Million Door Challenge was launched at the Liberal Democrat Conference in September. South Lakes Lib Dems started door knocking on Monday in Arnside and over the week local activists will be in Sedbergh, Kendal, Kirkby Lonsdale, Grange and Ambleside.
Local MP Tim Farron said that:"I am really looking forward to hearing people's opinions and dealing with the issues that will arise. Talking to people and being active in the community is why I got into politics and I know that many of my colleagues are doing their utmost to make sure the South Lakes is a vibrant place to live and work.
"Nothing can beat face-to-face politics, even in this Internet age. I think this is particularly true for a party like the Liberal Democrats, which has always been a party of grassroots activism and community politics and I want to make sure that people in the South Lakes are heard loud and clear in parliament.
"By knocking on a thousand doors in just a week we can take the message out to people that the Liberal Democrats care about the issues that you do like family finances, education, healthcare and crime."
