South Lakes MP Tim Farron has applauded the achievement of Riverside Bed & Breakfast in Ambleside in gaining 3rd place in TripAdvisor's best Bed & Breakfast in the world and has petitioned Parliament to recognise the exceptional standard of U.K B & B accommodation ahead of the Olypmics.

Following the ever-increasing success of establishments in the Lake District, Tim Farron has called on Parliament to formally recognise the astounding achievement and value of U.K Bed and Breakfasts ahead of the 2012 Olympics. Eight out of the top 10 in the Best B&B and Inns in the World Category are from the U.K, while Riverside B&B has built on its success in the 2011 competition, climbing from 4th to 3rd place.

Farron has tabled an Early Day Motion which states: "That this House congratulates the Lake District's Riverside Bed & Breakfast in Ambleside for its fantastic achievement of being voted the 3rd best Bed & Breakfast in the world on the Tripadvisor.co.uk website; recognises that 8 of the top 10 establishments in the competition are from the UK, therefore highlighting the outstanding quality of UK Bed & Breakfast hotels; acknowledges the importance of our global reputation for high quality Bed & Breakfasts for the UK economy particularly in 2012 with the occurrence of the Olympic Games and the Diamond Jubilee, when the strength of our hospitality trade will be a great national asset; and calls on MPs to promote quality Bed & Breakfast hotels in their own constituencies."

Commenting, Tim said: "This is fantastic news not only for South Lakes but for the U.K as a whole. We're in the global spotlight this year and our B&Bs are proving that they can stand the pressure and lead the way. This is something we should shout about, which is why, as well as launching a twitter campaign, I've brought the issue before Parliament and I'm keen to make sure that other MPs recognise the invaluable contribution that B&BS in their own constituencies bring to U.K tourism."
