Secret Tory plan to cut the NHS
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has demanded that senior government minister Sajid Javid MP today use his visit to Kendal to scale back plans to slash local health services.
Health services in South Cumbria face cuts of £572million by 2021. The BMA have blasted NHS transformation plans and said it will be 'used as cover for cuts'. These cuts will be to vital services used by local people day after day.
Tim has called on the minister to make a 'cast iron guarantee' to local people that local services will not be cut. He has also called on the Tories to give a clear promise that services will be increased at Westmorland General Hospital to relieve pressure elsewhere.
Tim said: "Massive Conservative cuts to our local health services are the elephant in the room that Sajid Javid must address today. What's been revealed so far from these secretive plans are drastic proposals to cut beds and services. Local people rely on these services and are hugely concerned.
"All people see is a creeping privatization of the NHS and more services moved by the Conservatives away from our area. It's simply not acceptable for these major decisions to made behind closed doors."
