‘Save our buses’ campaign steps up fight for Sedbergh, Dent and Hincaster services

Following the successful local Liberal Democrat campaign to save bus services to Levens, Sedgwick and Natland South Lakeland MP, Tim Farron is hoping to build on the momentum of the campaign to restore bus services to Sedbergh, Dent and Hincaster.

Despite an additional £288,000 to be used on local bus services given to Cumbria County Council by Liberal Democrat transport Minister Norman Baker, the biggest grant in the North West, the Conservative led County Council are still forging ahead with cuts to the services to Hincaster.

Thanks to the local Liberal Democrat campaign, bus company Stagecoach were able to step in to help save services to Levens, Sedgwick and Natland. However Tim is now calling on the council to use the money provided by the government to restore bus services to Sedbergh, Dent and Hincaster - all of which face a damaging loss of services under County Council plans

Commenting Tim said: "I am delighted that the local Lib Dems have been able to help save the services to Levens, Sedgwick and Natland, however more must be done to restore vital bus services to Sedbergh, Dent and Hincaster so that the elderly and vulnerable as well as young people who cannot drive are still able to get around with maximum independence.

"In a rural area like ours public transport plays a vital role for local people but also to our tourism economy. This could really affect our area and this is why the council need to put their plans to the public and listen to their opinions."
