Road improvement funds are welcome but more is needed says MP
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed £265,400 in road improvements for South Lakeland and thousands more to repair bridges and road safety schemes.
The money was secured in the Autumn Budget Statement by Tim to improve roads in Cumbria.
Announced today as part of a £1 million package, it seems that South Lakeland is getting a large chunk of the funding. The A5074 Brook Road to Biskey Howe, Windermere has received £67,800, the A595 Soutergate to Sandside will get £36,700, A5074 Burnside, Kendal Road surfacing will get £11,700
Other projects in our area will receive A684 Beehive Lane - Butterbent Park -Singleton Parks Road £50,600, A593 Skelwith Bridge to Skelwith Brow £22,700 and the A6 Gillingate to Town Hall Surfacing will receive £55,900.
The structure on the A6 at Hucks Brow has received £110,000 for remedial works.
Tim said: "This funding is welcome news and it is a good start. I am glad the funding we helped secure is being spent fixing local roads. But the roads announced for funding today are just a few of many in a poor state - we need to make sure a lot more roads are fixed and potholes are mended throughout the county."
