Public sector workers need a pay rise says Farron

Public sector workers in Westmorland & Lonsdale deserve to feel the benefits of the economic recovery. Tim Farron has said this must happen by public sector workers now receiving pay increases by at least the rate of inflation.

Liberal Democrats in government will ensure employees in the public sector are no longer subject to real term cuts in their pay. 5,900 public sector workers in Westmorland would benefit from these plans.

This will guarantee an increase in pay to one in seven workers in Westmorland & Lonsdale.

That's a minimum pay rise over the next two years of:

• £350 for a nurse at Westmorland General Hospital on £25,000

• £420 for a police officer in Cumbria constabulary on £30,000

• And nearly £500 for a teacher any of our local schools on £35,000

Tim said: "Public sector workers in Westmorland have made enough sacrifices. They have done their bit to help get the country back on track. That's why I believe it is time to end the era of pay restraint.

"Under our plans, we will give all public sector workers - from teachers and nurses to social workers and police officers - in Westmorland pay rises which at least keep pace with the cost of living every year.

"No more pay freezes or below inflation pay rises."
