POST OFFICE CHIEF PROMISES TO RETAIN POST OFFICE BRANCH ON KIRKLAND
Local MP Tim Farron has received an assurance that the closure of the post office branch on Kirkland in Kendal is only temporary.
Tim has been piling pressure onto Post Office bosses to get them to agree to re-open the branch which closed recently following the decision of the hard working post master to step down.
The current premises may become available to the Post Office within the next week which would enable the branch to reopen with a temporary sub-postmaster in the first instance before a full replacement can be appointed.
This information was passed to Mr Farron in a letter from the Managing Director of the Post Office Ltd, Alan Cook.
Tim Farron said, "Local people fought successfully to save Kirkland Post Office earlier this year when it faced closure due to government cuts. It would be a tragedy if we were now to lose the branch due to Post Office Ltd's failure to replace a post master who has stepped down. I'm encouraged that the Managing Director of Post Office Ltd has made this guarantee in response to my letter to him - it's my job now to hold him to it!"
