Plans to include financial education in the national curriculum have been welcomed by South Lakes MP Tim Farron.

Tim has long called for young people to be given the knowledge to help them make informed financial decisions and to manage money.

Tim said: "I am delighted to see that the Government has seen the need to start financial education in some form at Key Stage 1.

"Young people have a lot of important decisions to make regarding their finances. Making sure they are financially literate from the beginning of their education will allow them to make informed decisions and will stop them getting into financial difficulty."

From September 2014, finance will be taught to all primary and secondary students in maths and citizenship classes.
