Further details of the events, which were announced on Monday, will see local communities, schools and businesses celebrating in style, with a whole swathe of events including tea parties, school sports days, British style picnics and open air performances. Many have paid tribute to the work of Councillor Brendan Jameson, who passed away on Sunday, as instrumental in securing the Torch for South Lakes and making the Olympics an event to remember for the whole community.
Commenting, Tim said "It is impossible to think of these momentous plans without thinking of Brendan Jameson. His tenacious commitment to showcase our communities to the world brought the Olympic Torch to South Lakeland and we are deeply indebted to him. His passion for South Lakeland will be in all of our minds as we prepare for these events, which stand as a legacy to him. I have absolutely no doubt that our local communities will rise to the challenge with enthusiasm and creativity and give South Lakes the celebration of a generation.
