News that drivers in Cumbria are set to benefit from at least £30 million worth of road improvements over the next few years has been welcomed by South Lakes MP Tim Farron. £2 million worth of improvements to the county's motorways and major A road network are due to take place over the next few months, the bulk of these improvements being in the South Lakes.

The £30 million represents schemes already planned and which the Highways Agency are either committed to delivering, or which have already been delivered. Amongst those are long term campaigning objectives like the Greenodd roundabout, which Tim has worked on for the last 10 years in conjunction with residents, John Woodcock MP and councillors like Janet Willis and Joss Curwen.

In the next few months over £1million will be invested improving two sections of the A590 at Lindal and Witherslack. Tim has campaigned and pressed for more funding to try and make the A590 safer. further £800,000 worth of electronic message signs will be installed along the A590 at Barrow and on the M6.

Tim said: "The funding that will be spent in the next six months is incredibly welcome and I'm glad to played a part in securing it. Working with residents, communities and people like John Woodcock MP and Councillor Janet Willis, we are working tirelessly to try and make roads like the A590 safer for local people."
