MPs question to PM gets results

27 Mar 2006

Local MP Tim Farron's question to the Prime Minister Tony Blair at Prime Ministers Questions on Wednesday 8th March has helped secure a spectacular result. Tim asked the Prime Minister whether he would help to make sure that affordable housing in Cumbria remains affordable into the future by removing the mandatory right to buy (stair-casing) option.

Last week the Government announced that they will be changing the regulations in line with Mr. Farron's request, which means that rural areas such as ours will be exempt from mandatory stair-casing.

Tim commented: "This is extremely good news for local people because it means that local planning authorities will be able to give permission to shared ownership and shared equity developments in the knowledge that these houses will remain affordable into the future".
