MPs must be given opportunity to force the DWP to compensate WASPI women
Commenting on the report released today by the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman, that recommended that the Government should compensate women affected, Cumbrian MP Tim Farron said: “The failure of the DWP to properly inform millions of women that the state pension age had changed is one of the great injustices of our time.
“Nearly four million women, including many here in Cumbria, had their worlds turned upside down by the incompetence of the DWP, and so I’m glad that the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman has recommended that they should be compensated properly.
“But it is utterly appalling that the Ombudsman has said that the DWP will refuse to comply and put things right.
“It’s vital that MPs have given the opportunity to force the DWP to act - the WASPI campaigners, here in Cumbria and across the country, have suffered for long enough.”
