MP’s first race since injury raises over £3,000 for local cancer charity
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has raised more than £3,000 for local charity CancerCare North Lancashire & South Cumbria by running the Coniston 14 road race.
CancerCare, who are celebrating their 40th anniversary this year, are an independent, local charity supporting people affected by cancer and bereavement in North Lancashire and South Cumbria, with centres in Barrow, Kendal, Lancaster, and Morecambe.
In 2023 alone the charity supported over 2,000 clients, ranging from the ages of three to 101, offering a range of support to people affected by cancer.
It was Tim’s first running event for five months, after sustaining a knee injury last year.
Tim completed the 14 mile challenge in a time of two hours and 11 minutes.
Tim said: “I am enormously grateful to each and every person who sponsored me and donated to CancerCare – your money will make such an important difference to the lives of people in our area living with cancer and their families.”
“I also want to say a massive thanks to the organisers and fellow runners of this beautiful and exhilarating event.”
Alison Stainthorpe, CancerCare’s Chief Executive said: “We are truly grateful for Tim to choose CancerCare and raising over £3,000 is incredible!
“As a local charity we rely on community support as 93% of our income is fundraised.
“The money raised will help pay for over 80 counselling sessions from our centre in Kendal for those impacted by a cancer diagnosis or bereavement across the South Lakes area.”
