MP writes to Secretary of State to call-in ‘environmentally-backwards’ Cumbria coal mine decision

2 Oct 2020

Following the news that councillors in Cumbria have approved plans for a new coal mine, local MP Tim Farron has written to Secretary of State Robert Jenrick, urging him to call-in the decision to review and reject it.

Tim said: "The decision to approve the new coal mine is a massive kick in the teeth in the fight against climate change - but I'm not ready to give up.

"I've already written to the Secretary of State asking him to call-in this decision. We managed to put a spanner in the works last year when I wrote to the last Secretary of State and we're going to do it again.

"For the sake of the future of our planet and for our children and our grandchildren, it's vital this mine does not go ahead and instead we invest in renewable jobs."
