MP welcomes new 20mph signs in South Lakes village
Tim and Elterwater Councillor Heidi Halliday have waged a long campaign for safer speed limits in the village - which saw Tim and Heidi hand in a petition from local residents in the House of Commons.
Local residents have been pushing for a lower speed limit in the village for a long time-cars can currently drive through the village at 60mph.
Tim said, "Whenever I speak to residents in Elterwater they tell me that speeding cars through the village are both noisy and dangerous. This is a great result and shows what community campaigning can do. I'd like to pay tribute to local residents and their fantastic councillor Heidi Halliday. I will be pressing the Police to work with the community to create a community speed watch scheme to compliment the new signs."
Heidi added, "I would like to thank Tim, the residents of Elterwater and Parish Councillor Mrs Jean Birkett for all of their help with this scheme. Our aim is to not just highlight the problem but also to work positively together on speeding issues in our rural areas. The '20's Plenty' is the first step in raising this awareness."
