MP welcomes grant to help restore Cumbria's meadows
Local MP Tim Farron has welcomed a grant of £26,441 for The Cumbria Biodiversity Partnership (CBP) to help restore meadows within the National Park.
The CBP was given the funds by SITA Trust on Thursday as part of their ongoing work to improve biodiversity throughout the country.
After summer flowers were lost last year in theLake District's meadows, efforts are being made to restore the flowers.
An ecologist will work with farmers, as well as Natural England staff and volunteers, to bring back flowers such as the melancholy thistle, great burnet, eyebright and various daisies for summer 2012. It is expected that the project will also help boost biodiversity in the area.
Commenting, Tim said: "Hay meadows are a big part of Cumbria's landscapes and so it's great news that work is being done to restore these. This is an ambitious project that will improve the environment and boost biodiversity."
