South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that Kendal will host a series of festive events this December, ranging from Christmas Markets to skating rinks.

Kendal Christmas Market offers a festive treat to visitors and residents with a series of food, gift and craft stalls.

Alongside all this, Kendal Business Improvement District (BID) has funded a free park-and-ride service from K Village into the town centre, running from 1-24 December. Parking will also be free in SLDC car parks on every Sunday in December in the lead up to Christmas.

The itinerary of the 'Festive Fortnight' is as follows:

  • 11-14 Dec - Christmas Market - A German-style Christmas Market with alpine chalets, Gluhwein and Bratwurst Bar, traditional festive food and drinks, gifts and crafts.
  • 15-16 Dec - Made in Cumbria Festive Market - These ever popular markets will fill your senses and delight your taste buds, with lots of chances to pick up gifts for your loved ones.
  • 17 Dec - Traditional Kendal Market - Festive themed Kendal Market.
  • 18 Dec - Festive Thursday - Additional seasonal market with festive fayre.
  • 19 Dec - Made in Cumbria Farmers Market - 28 stalls of delicious treats from local suppliers - time to indulge!
  • 20 Dec - Traditional Kendal Market - Festive themed Kendal Market.
  • 21-23 Dec - Skating rink - Enjoy the magic of skating with street stall selling chestnuts, hot chocolate and mince pies.
  • 24 Dec - Traditional Kendal Market - Time to get any last minute gifts!

Tim said: "The arrival of Kendal's festive fortnight is fantastic news and something I wholeheartedly support. It promises to make the town come alive in the run up to Christmas and I'm looking forward to taking my family to see all the stalls and use the skating rink! I want to thank Kendal BID, Kendal Town and South Lakeland District Council for making this idea a reality."
