MP welcomes extra services from Manchester Airport to Windermere

South Lakes MP Tim Farron has the welcomed news that capacity will be increased throughout the north. Tim's lobbying to extend services on the Lakes Line and protect the direct link between Manchester Airport and Windermere has paid off.

Today the government announced a package of rail service changes throughout the north. Specifically as part of the package they announced a new 10:53am service from Windermere to Manchester Airport will be introduced, while the existing 1:33pm service from Barrow-in-Furness to Manchester Airport will depart at 12:13pm to provide more balanced services throughout the day. There will be a new, direct 5:14pm service from Manchester Oxford Road to Barrow-in-Furness will be introduced, with a connection for Windermere.

Tim is repeatedly called and campaigned to protect the through trains to Manchester Airport as he believes it is vital for residents, businesses and our tourism sector.

As part of the package additional capacity on Cumbrian Coast services have also been announced.

Tim said: "This news is fantastic and showed that work on this has paid off. We have tried to press the government and others to make the case for more services from Manchester Airport to the Lakes. This announcement was a great effort, I'd like to thank rail operators and the Lakes Line Users Group for their support on this ongoing campaign. I think it will make a big difference for residents and businesses.

"I also believe this announcement will be a boost to our tourism sector and I will keep doing all I can to boost connectivity and rail transport in Cumbria."
