South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed a DEFRA select committee report that calls on the government to push the red tape task force's recommendations forward quickly. Tim is keen that the government should abolish the six day movement rule.

The Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Committee have welcomed the findings of the independent Task Force on Farming Regulation and have joined Tim in calling on Defra to implement its recommendations promptly.

In May 2011, the independent Farming Regulation Task Force completed a review of Defra's farming and food related regulations - the first of its kind across Whitehall.

Tim said: "When I talk to farmers they tell me about the silly hoops they have to jump through. I welcome the report and I am now calling on DEFRA to now act and make sure the recommendations are moved forward quickly like the abolition of the six day movement rule is a hangover from the foot and mouth crisis and it should not be hampering farmers during peacetime."
