MP welcomes climbdown over plans to withdraw out-of-hour crisis cover
South Lakes MP Tim Farron has welcomed the news that Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has withdrawn its plans to remove overnight mental health psychiatrists.
The MP had expressed his concerns over the plans, which were due to come into action this Sunday, saying they were "dangerous" and "inhumane".
But the Trust have now back-tracked and have announced they will be delaying the plans until January.
Tim has called for the plans to be ditched completely.
He said: "I'm glad to see the plans have been kicked down the road as they would've had a devastating effect on the people of Cumbria and increased pressure on mental health workers who are already overstretched.
"However, I am still very concerned that the Trust are still planning on withdrawing overnight mental health psychiatrists by the beginning of January.
"These proposals could potentially lead to fatal consequences and must be scrapped altogether."
